If the churning has t be continued for a long time before the butter comes she believes that some one has taken the butter off by begrudging it.
She gathers the cream in a butter butt which she keeps in the room. A clean cloth is kept over the lid of the butter.
When it was ready for churning she churnd it herself.
The people of the district used to go to Derry with butts of butter to sell. A man would get one of these on his back, and off he would start for the city.
A man named John O Connor of Claggan one time had a butt of butter ready for Derry A neighbour of his also had a butt ready. The neighbour asked John to take his butt with him on horseback. He would not and so he fixed his on butter on one side of the horse, and balanced this by placing a large stone on the other side of the horse.
