Once an old man who live Jure put a set of iron harrows on top of a hay stack to hold it down. A heavy wind arose and lifted the stack, set of harrows and all. Next year, when the dredger was at work in Lough Foyle she found the set of harrows.
In 1892 another great wind arose. My grandfather carted free-sand once a week. The evening before the storm he filled the carts with sand intending to go to Derry the next day. It was near Christmas and they were going to send a box to friends in Scotland. They intended to take the box on top of the load of sand.
Next day they set off and had not gone very far when they found five trees blown across the road. They had to turn and come home. They then yoked the pony and jauntin car and set out with the box. When they reached the fallen trees they drove into the field beside the road and got out at the other end of it. My father was a little boy at the time and he ran alongside the jaunting.(continues on next page)- Collector
