- Long ago, the bread was made from oatmeal, Indian meal and flour. The bread made from oatmeal was called oat bread, and the bread made from Indian meal was called Indian meal. They also made fadge which was made from potatoes.
The flour that they made their bread from long ago was courser than the flour of today. It had to be put through a sieve before being used.
The people now take on griddles and pot-ovens. The pot oven is hung over the fire with hot coals put on the lid.Jack Dinsmore 8th June 1938
