- (continued from previous page)ghost while the others live with their mothers. The one who is acting as the mother makes the others go to the well for water. The children come back in dispair telling of the ghost in the well. The mother goes to see the ghost, and sees she has knives with her. She asks what are the knives for? The ghost answers, 'to cut the heads off you, at the same rushing after them pretending to cut the heads off them.
When leading one girl holds her hands over anothers eyes and walks about, to see if she can guess where she is.
About two weeks before Hallow Eve the whole passtime is gathering nuts in the glens. These nuts we keep until Hallow Eve. Then on Hallow Eve night we burn nuts on a small shovel, around the fire. We put names on the nuts and then see which lives the longest. We also tie apples to the roof or put them in water.
When the blackberries are ripe we pick them for selling and eating.
It is nice to get out along ditches and hedges on Spring evenings looking for birds nests. Sometimes we go in pairs a different road one of us in each side of the road to see who gets the most birds nests.
In winter nights it is a nice passtime to play spinning genie on the table. It is made with(continues on next page)- Collector
