- The nearest places where fairs are held are Moville and Carndonagh. There are small towns in this country. We sell cows and horses at these fairs. When we sell a horse we give the branks or rope with him. When we sell a cow beast we keep the rope. When we sell an animal we give back some money. This money is called a luck penny. Some people say it is not lucky if you do not give a luckpenny.
The fair is always held in a field beside the town. When we buy a beast we cut a bit of hair off it, so that we will know that it is our own. When we sell sheep or pigs we give s per head luck penny. You have to pay twopence to get them into a fair.- Collector
