- An old Custom of Moville.
Many old customs were practiced in Moville many years ago which are not practiced now. This is one of these old customs.
On the evening of the day before the first of May, many of the young girls of the town gathered a bunch of yarrow. While they were gathering the yarrow this is what they said ;-
Good morrow; Good morrow ; fair yarrow
Thrice good morrow to thee,
Let me know before this time tomorrow,
Who my true love will be,
The colour of his hair,
The clothes he will wear,
The words he will speak,
When he comes to court me,
They were told that if they went to sleep that night with the yarrow under the pillow they would see, in their dreams, their future husbands.
