- In to the good old times before there were any word of motors, there lived a widow and her son on the road to Dublin. Now this Jack was a good for nothing fellow, only running after birds, and rabbits. He had all the birds from miles around so tame that whenever he would blow a whistle all the birds would gather and perch from his arms and shoulders he had them so tame. Now one day as it happened the Lord Mayor of Dublin was passing the road Jack had all the birds gathered together. So the Lord Mayor stopped and wondered where did he get them. he asked him how did he catch them and Jack said by this little magic whistle showing it to him. When I blow it all the birds gather from miles and miles has to come at its call. (So) So the Lord Mayor thought it would be a wonderful thing in Dublin he could gather all the birds together. So he began to ask Jack to sell it. Now Jack was not as soft as the Lord Mayor thought he was and he said he would not sell(continues on next page)
