    school but in the summer there would only be fifteen as the scholars were kept at home to herd. That school was kept until eighteen hundred and seventy eight.
    There was a hedge school in the townland of Glebe, Culdaff about a mile from Culdaff village and at present the property of Andy Knox. There is a rock there still, known as the school house rock. At a later date the scholars fixed up a wall and put a roof of some kind on it. The teacher who wasn't a native of the district was known as "Dorby". He stayed in this district about twelve weeks at a time. Sometimes he stopped a week in the house of each of the scholars but he stayed mostly in the house of George McGee, Glebe, Culdaff. When he would teach for twelve weeks in that school he would go away to some other place and wouldn't
