were no house there. That was the home of Niall the King of the Fairies.
The poor man walked on to the house that refused him the night's lodgings. The man of the house was in the street skinning a cow. The man put the ring to his eye to see what they were doing. He saw it was a log they were skinning. He said "My good man do you know what you are skinning?". The man said he did that his cow died last night and that he was skinning it. Says he put this ring to your eye and see what you are skinning. The man put the ring to his eye and saw that it was a log.
The fairies taught him a lesson for refusing the poor man a night's lodgings by taking his cow from him and eating her, and leaving a log in the shape of a cow for him to skin in the morning.
