- Once upon a time a man was stilling in the West Town. One night he went out for a basket of turf for the fire. When he came in there was a woman sitting beside the fire. He put on the fire but he forgot to give the woman some of the whiskey. When he took it off he saw that it was water instead of whiskey.
The woman told him then that because he did not give her whiskey she turned it into water. She then told him that he need never be afraid to be caught stilling by the policemen, and then she vanished. - It was the custom in olden times to have a spinning. One women in the West Town went round and asked her neighbours to come with their wheels and cards. There was no clocks at that time and this woman rose very early and put on a fire. When she had the fire on the door opened and in came a woman with her wheel and sat down. In(continues on next page)
