    Many a swooping eagle soars,
    Achill, where too deep for plummet,
    Loud the wild Atlantic roars.
    Mighty Croughan heavenward towering
    From the Bay of Keem below
    Rears its crest with heather flowering,
    'Neath the western sunbeam's glow.
    Here its river side exposing
    Beds of amethystyne ore,
    There its mountain path disclosing
    Boycott seat and Corrymore.
    O'er its peaks with moss grown hoary
    Storms have swept for ages past,
    Yet in full primeval glory
    Still it mocks the whirl-wind blast.
    Place me on its crag that steepest
    Till my soul with fancy's fed,
    Place me where through space 'tis deepest
    Sheer into the ocean bed.
    Achill Head where billows breaking,
    Roll in fury from the main,
    Sounds like distant thunder waking
