- Long ago there was a village out in Devenish Island in Lough Mask. There was a big well in the middle of the village. This well was covered with a big iron lid. If the lid was left off the well the water would rush from the well and flood the village.
One evening a woman went to the well for water. When she got the bucket of water, she went away with-out putting the lid on the well.
That night the water rushed from the well and flooded the village and the people. After that the fishermen could see the houses down in the water on a fine summer's day.- Informant
