- At Trim, Co. Meath, a man named Walter Murphy taught in the ruins of an old castle. At the end of every week each of the children brought him one penny for teaching them. During that period children had to walk six or seven miles to school, because they had no bicycles. Mr. Murphy did not go anywhere else to teach.
