  2. Raftery the poet was born in Mayo. He was blind. I do not know much about him but I heard an old man once singing one of his songs. I can only remember one verse of it.
    "Once I had a servant maid the best that could be found,
    She used to bear me company when going to the pond,
    My linen sheets and canvas she'd wash as white as snow,
    But now she has forsaken me my heart is filled with woe.
