- There was nine or ten old houses in this district long ago but they are not in it now. All those houses were thatched with straw. Most of the houses had one room and a kitchen. In most of the houses the bed was in the kitchen and it was usually plased by the wall. Some of the beds were made of iron and more of them made of wood. The fire used to be in the centre of the kitchen. The chimney was made of wattles and yellow clay. There was no glass in some of the windows, only a space to let in light. The floors were made of yellow clay. Half doors were common in the district in(continues on next page)
