- Every farmer sows potatoes and they are the principal crop that are sown in this district. Some farmers sow an acre and others sow two or three acres. The farmers that sow an acre keep them for there own use. The farmers that sow two or three acres keep some of them for their use and sell the rest of them at the market. Potatoes are usually sown in a field where corn was grown the year before. The land is ploughed in late harvest or early Spring and there the drills are opened. After a week the slits are sown about twelve inches apart. Then the drills are covered with a plough and then the manure is spread. The manures that are used are dung, sea-weed, and artificial manure. Some people sow potatoes in ridges but not many. When the stalks appear above the(continues on next page)
