    notable figure was Mr. O'Shaughnessy also born in Kilchreest and belonged to the gentry.
    Lady Gregory born in Roxborough estate and later lived in Coole near Gort. She was daughter of Dudley Perfse and sister of Major Perfse. Even though this girl was a protestant she was a great patriot and writer and fought hard for the freedom of Ireland not with arms but with her famous pamphlets which held her readers spellbound.
    Also her sisters son Sir Hugh Lane. He was a great art critic. When he went to study art in Paris he had to live on a shilling per day in the early stages.
    He left a large collection of paintings to the "Royal Academy" in Dublin. He was drowned when on board the ill-fated Titanic which was bound for New York when
