In the time of the Fianna there was a bishop named Dr. Madden who lived in Clunoo. He was arrested by the English forces under command Power, and he was taken to Galway.
As he was going in the gate Power asked him for hire, the hire at that time was twelve shillings a week. The Dr. said that he was late and all I will give you is the hangman's hire which is thirteen pence. He said go now and you will have a new story before you, and when he went home his wife met him at the gate.
