    The work of picking the potatoes is chiefly the children's job. The waste and small potatoes are put into a sperate pit, and are given to the pigs.
    Each covering the potatoes dug during the day are covered with straw. When the digging is finished the pits are covered with clay to save the potatoes from the frost.
