    pancakes. They usually put a ring in the pancakes and whoever gets the ring is supposed to be married before the next Shrove Tuesday.
    On Chalk Sunday the children go around the street chalking the people. They unfortunately chalk everyone instead of only chalking the bachelors and old maids.
    On St. John's Day the children make a bonfire. They go around from house to house collecting turf, sticks, oil or money. When they have all collected they make a big heap and light it.
    On St. Martin's Day the people kill a cock. They leave his head half off and go around to every door coming into the house and sprinkle his blood there. This is supposed to keep out all disease.
