  2. One upon a time the birds wanted a king so they went to Saint Colmcille that he might choose their king. He said that the bird that flew highest should be their king. The wren hopped on the eagle's back and when the eagle had gone as high as it could he flew up another little bit and he had to be declared king. St. Colmcille knew what the wren had done and he was
