- There were many superstitions regarding feet water. Long ago when it was the custom for people to go in their bare feet they never left the water they washed their feet with in the house after them because tradition tells us that the fairies could call on the feet water at night and it would unlock the door for them. The reason was that the feet were travelling on the fairies tracks all day.
