“People around here usually get married before Lent.”
People around here usually get married before Lent. It is unlucky to get married in May and on Wednesdays and Fridays. They say the wedding would not be lucky unless something made of glass was broken. When the bride would be coming in they would break the wedding cake on her head. In olden days they used to give as a fortune a hundred pounds and a some sort of a beast. Match making is carried on around here Two men usually go to ask the girl and they bring a bottle of whiskey.
