9th NovemberSeven miles south east of Tuam are the ruins of a Cistercian Abbey. It is built on the banks of a small river. This Abbey was founded in the year (1109). Cathal Croabh Dearg O'Connor, whose tomb is preserved with it ruins. The Cistercians were introduced into Ireland by Saint Malachy Archbishop of Armagh.
