    and milk for his dinner. The chief subjects which were taught in that school were - Arithmetic, Reading, Writing and a little Grammer. History or Irish wasnot taught in that school because the people were not in favour of them. When a child was sent to school in the morning a piece of paper was put round the child's neck. The master marked the number of times the child spoke Irish in school on the piece of paper. The parents of the child punished him for speaking Irish.
