  1. Long ago people used oatmeal bread and oatmeal porridge and flummery for their meals which were only taken three times a day. In the morning about two o'clock and the last thing before going to bed. They used to get up very early in the morning and work out in the fields for some hours before they got their first meal of the day. When meals were ready they used to sit on stools round a basket of potatoes on a pot of stirabout which was eaten with a noggin of buttermilk. Noggins were used instead of mugs in those days.
Others had a table which they used to take down off the wall and put standing on the floor on feet which folded up when not in use. When the meal was over the table was put up against the wall again.
Oatmeal bread was baked in front of the fire on a stand or on a griddle.
