- There are four forges in the Parish. The names of the smiths are Mr Mulligan, Mr Roche, Mr O'Connell and Mr Gloughin Mr Mulligan's father-in-law was a smith, and his name was Mr Ward.
There are two of the forges in the town, and one in Castle Street, another at the creamery in Manorhamilton.
The roof of the forge is made of iron, and it is the same shape as an ordinary house. The doors is a square shape and there is one fire place in it.
The implements a smith uses are a hammer a nippers, a foil and a pliers.
Sometimes he has to put on a big fire out side to shoe cart wheels and trap wheels.
There is a big bellows in the forge. It is made in the wall and there is a big tube that the wind goes through to the fire.
The smith makes spades, shovels and he mends ploughs and other machinery.- Collector
