- There is a crock of gold supposed to be hidden in a bog belonging to John Layden in the townland of Knockateen. Nobody knows the exact spot. It is guarded by an eel. It is said that the eel goes down to the Arigna river every day to wash himself and to take a drink and if the people knew the exact spot they would get the gold while the eel is away. It is said that a man in Sligo dreamt three nights after other about the gold. There were lights seen at the place several times. Nobody ever went to dig for it so the treasure remains still untouched.
