"The drowning on Lough Allen"On the second day of April eighteen thirty one.
It being on Good Friday at the rising of the sun.
Our neighbours going to market came flocking to the shore,
but fourteen of that number returned back no more.
Between Ros Beg and Corry point they hoisted up their sails
The wind it blew from the north East which caused a pleasant gale
They rode along most cheerfully which caused some ones to weep
But that evening at Stravagen they were perished in the deep.
And entering the Harbour young Johny this did say,
“Be quick and make your markets all early in the day”
They all agree to go at three and sail along the shore,
But the Lord you see was their decree young Johny was no more
At 7 in the evening when they all prepared to go,
Young Johny took the helm on the other three did row
That Owen and Terence Carrigan and Mily Beg was four
Two lads and eight young females made the other half a score
And entering this harbour young Johny give command,
“row up my hearty comrades for the wind is getting strong”,
and if we gain the shelter of the land,
Wee’l row into the new Quay and its there wee’l land the women,
and wee will anchor until day.
