    LOCKE'S HOLE
    This is the name of a large hole in Slievenakilla Mountain at Carraig Cú. One time a lamb of Edward Locke's went into this hole and he could not be taken out. Locke brought his daughter out to the hole. He tied a rope around her waste and let her down into the hole. Then she caught the lamb and he pulled herself and the lamb up. Ever since it is called Locke's hole.

    EASCAIDH BÁN STREAM
    This is the name given to the upper portion of the Yellow River. The next part of the stream lower down is called Poll Glas stream.

    SRATH MÓR
    (Mor was pronounced like the English word "moor" here)
    Stream: This is the name of a stream at Poll Glas. It is a tributary of the Yellow River.

    EAS TULACH na BOLÓIGE STREAM
    or "Poll na Caillighe " Stream are the names of a stream at the "Poor House" in Ballinaglera.
    Note: The landlord got the "POOR HOUSE" built. The tenants had to pay for building it. When the house was being built the local people were working at it. The women and girls used to take the dinner up to the men. Bissy McGourty of Slievenakilla went up to the house. She said to the men: "What are ye going to build here or is it a "Poor House" ye are going to build. Ever from that time down that name is on the house. That house was built for a herd.

    BANNC DUBH
    This is a black bank at the "Poor House" in Slievenakilla.

    LOCH na bhFAOILEANN
    This is a lake on the Slievenakilla Mountain. It means the lake of the seagulls.
