- (continued from previous page)In the village of Leitrim there lived a basket maker named James Beatty. He was married and had one son Andrew. They all worked at the trade for years. My grandfather Thomas Campbell had a plot of white osier rods, and these people often called on him for dozens of two year old rods. These rods were generally cut early in October.
In order to make the baskets the rods were first boiled, then pulled and worked when warm. The basket was made thus -
