- Previous to the Famine 1846-47 a prosperous family lived at Mount Allen near the Galley Bridge. The family consisted of six persons, father, mother, two sons and two daughters. They were robbed by their Landlords (the Landlords were England's garrison) who seized all their stock and crops for rent, until they had not a morsel of food to eat and no money to buy it, even it was to be had for buying.
