The master's name was Frank O'Connor from Ballyduff and he slapped the boys with a sally twig.There was a hedge school up in Dromin Listowel and it was taught by a man by the name of Martin Conway and he taught under a bush and a fever broke out in the school and when it was gone they appointed a nurse to visit the hedge-school and there was a well near bush where Martin taught. One day the nurse came and the boys were very dirthy and she took each one to the well and made them wash their ears and neck and face and hands.
