- Timothy Mc Govern of "Cnoc na Crochadh" and Patrick O Donnell of Seanafóna are the only poets, of which thee is any account, who lived in this district formerly. Timothy Mc Govern lived from 1873 to 1928 and Patrick O Donnell from 1858 to 1903, They are both buried in the old cemetry in Abbeyfeale.
There were poets among the ancestors of the Mc Governs, one of whom married Pat O Donnell's father and according to tradition it was from the Mc Governs O Donnell inherited the gift of poetrymaking.
