- Some years ago there were a great number of tradesmen in this district. There were blacksmiths and shoemakers and weavers in it.
There was a shoemaker in MIlltown for a while named David Devane. He was a native of Belmount. He spent about six years n Milltown. He was a very good shoemaker. There were also two other shoemakers named Michael Waldron and his son Patrick Waldron, They were very good shoemakers. They could make a new pair of shoes and mend all sorts of broken ones. They fixed all the shoes of the parish and outside it. They had a special room in the house for working. The room used to be almost filled with shoes. There was a very good blacksmith called Michael Silk in this place. He could shoe horses(continues on next page)- Collector
