    As soon as the fire burns red and low.
    And the house upstairs is still
    Mother sings me a queer sleepy song
    Of sheep that go over the hill
    The little sheep run quick and soft.
    Their colours are black and white
    They follow their leader as quick as they can
    For they must be home for the night.
    And one runs over and the other comes next.
    The good little black little sheep.
