- There were various kinds of bread made in my district in olden times.
Griddle-cake was the principal bread made. This bread was made of oaten meal mixed with water. After making this bread it was placed beside the fire on an iron which was called "The Griddle".
The old men seem to be highly in favour of this bread. I heard an old man say "Yearra, the oaten bread was a light as the moneens."
