- Long ago the people used griddle bread. They kneaded it (with) on a breadboard and wet it with vinegar and buttermilk. It was baked on a griddle left standing against the grate. It took an hour and a half to bake it. This was oatmeal bread. The people did not use flour at all at this time. Other kinds of bread was Indian bread but it was made the same way as the griddle bread only that it was wet with new milk and there was some butter put through it in order to stick it together. It was baked on a lid just like the lid of an oven that there was a handle out of it.Annie Pagnam, Selton
