    They did not take proper precautions and the chains, which were supposed to be of gold, were taken off the wagons and thrown into an old well. In the morning the wagons and guns could not be moved. The soldiers made ropes of straw and succeeded in bringing them as far as Kildra Lough (4 mls. N.E. of school) into which they were hurled and are there still.
