Long ago, the candles used to be made with rushes. First, rushes are pulled. Then they are peeled and brought into the house to dry on the crook. They are then greased and lit. Long ago at Christmas the people used to make rush candles to put them in a sod of turf and light them. - Rope-making.Long ago, (ropes) ropes were made from horse-hairs. The horse-hair was twisted and made into ropes. The people used to make hayropes for tying cows. First they used to twist the ropes and plat them three times.
