    it on top of the fire and put some grains of oats in it and if anything or anyone was going to die the grains of oats will leap off the shovel that night. Several people do that too.
    The old people say that it is not right to leave the tongs the left hand side of the fire when going to bed or to leave chairs round the fire light with great delight on a stormy night, because that the fairies would come and be sitting on them all night and if you leave the house tidy they won't bother about it at all. It is also not right to leave the house without clean water or the fairies if they came to it would be going round the house all night looking for a drink. It is not right to be out late at night or you don't know what you would meet on the way in. The old people says that they might meet ghosts or evil spirits on the road.
