  1. I live in the townland of Drumshanbo. It is in the parish of Gortletteragh, in the county of Leitrim and in the barony of Mohill. There are about forty families living in it and the population is about two hundred. Griffin is the family name most common in it. The majority of the houses are one storey thatched ones. There are only four two storey slated ones in the townland. Houses were more numerous in the district in former times as there are a good many in ruins at present. A great many people emigrated to America in olden times.
    The land is hilly and boggy but good. There is a lake in it called Drumshanbo lake but
