- Hallowed walls of ancient Fenagh, relic of the long ago.
Lone you loom above the meadows in the sunbeam's golden glow,
Peaceful red amid your ruins saints and chieftains true and bold,
Bright their deeds and great their glories,
written in the books of old. Passed have centuries bright and stormy,
yet your gray walls proud and high,
Still with cross of Christ above them,
stand beneath the changeful sky.
No roof bars the rain or sunshine from
your mounds of human mould,
And the ivy darkly twined you, garlands
green your scars enfold. In your walls the song birds nestle, sweet and wild the songs they sing,
Echoes as of olden minstrels chanting to the Heavenly Kings,
