  1. Many years ago there happened a strange thing in this district. A young woman went out at night-fall to a well for a gallon of water. She fell into the well and was drowned. Her remains were taken to the house and in those days corpses were all waked on the Kitchen table.
    It happened that a neighbouring boy was in the habit of going away from home and not returning for days. He happened to be away at this particular time and on his way home he had to cross a bog. He met a large crowd and every tow was linked. There was one walking behind all the others having no partner.
    He said "As you have all partners I think I'll have a partner too" putting his arms around her and walking along for some distance. He discovered it was his own neighbouring woman. This boy was also a friend to the woman. He questioned her as to how she came to be there but she could not answer him as she could not speak. He proceeded home taking her with him.
