    Long ago a man lost his butter.

    In a few days he sent word to him that he had the greyhound. The man went for the greyhound and got her. He and a few others sat watching for the hare. About five o' clock in the morning the hare came running and began playing through the cows. After a few minutes the greyhound got all excited.
    The men lifted up the greyhound and showed her the hare. She leaped out of their arms and away with her, and the hare. The man told them to run to an old house. When they were about at it, the hare leaped in on a hole and just when she was going in, the greyhound took a mouthful out of her.
    The men broke in the door, and when they went inside, the people of the house were churning. The old woman was lying on the floor bleeding. She begged of them not to kill her, and after that the man has as much
