Local people sometimes help one another in sowing the potatoes. Where there are two or three members of the family it is easy getting in the crop. Where there are two or more men + they have two horses they need no help. But where there is only one man he needs help + if he has only one horse he has to get a loan of a horse.
During the Summer months the potaotes are shovelled + weeds are all taken from among the potatoes in bottom ground but not in Lee. They are also sprayed. This is done by melting blue stone + washingsoda _ spraying th epotatoes with it to keep away the blight. In Autumn the potatoes are dug out of the ridges with spades. But potatoes are dug out of drills with a potatoe digger drawn by a horse. They are picked first the big ones + put into heaps for human consumption + the little ones are put in other heaps for the pigs. The men picks the potatoes + if there are young members of the family they pick the little ones. After a while the potatoes are brought in + stored in a barn or out house + kept for Winter eve. Different potatoes grow well in different farms. The Snow-Flakes, Kerr Pinks, + Roses are the common kind.
