- The houses long ago were different to the houses which we have now.
The houses had a thatched roof, the walls were made of mud and were low and thick.
Also the floors were made of mud.
In some houses the chimneys were made of timber and some times of mud.
In some houses there used not be any chimney.
In these houses there used to be a bed in the corner.
This was called a settle bed and could be closed up during the day.
In some places there used not be any glass in the windows.
This is what the people used to use instead of glass.
