In a glen I worked one day.
Night o'ertook me in the place,
Uninvited I betook me
To the house of Diarmaid Crooked Spought I there just bare protection.
Whither chance poor me directed,
Neither bed nor pallet asked I,
Merely place beside the fire.His old hag, in accents wild,
Spewed her venow on my kind
Her's was not a house of rest -
"Get thee east or get thee west". Fled I from the churl's hearth,
Faced the wrathful winter blast,
Travelled fields in mortal fread
As if wraites behind me pressed!I implore with all my heart,
That your home to utmost top
