  1. Marriage Customs
    People marry at all times of the year now but long ago nearly everybody used get married at Shrove. Nearly all the marriages used take place on Shrove Tuesday, the last day of Shrove. The lucky days of the week are Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. People do not like May, August, and September. They say that what is bound in Harvest will be loosened in Spring.
    Matches are made and fortunes are settled in this district like long ago. The fortune depends on the size of the farm. Money is nearly always given as the dowry but land or cattle is sometimes given if the dowry is not big enough. No marriages take place n the houses now. The last were about sixty years ago. On the wedding - day the bridegroom goes to the girl's house about nine o' clock. He brings with him his friends in cars. The friends of the bride also go to the bride's house in cars. All the cars then drive to church where the marriage is celebrated with nuptial mass.
    All return again to the bride's house for breakfast. They then dance a while after which all will go for a drive to some town. They come back again about night - fall and they will have the wedding feats and stay till morning. The
