Mercy!, 'Master what have I done to be treated like this. The countryman played on till at last he "bid" him a hundred crowns. The countryman took the money and walked on. The jew crept out half naked and went to the Duke and said that a man robbed him of all his money. The Duke sent out his Clerks. They did not go far until they overtook the countryman and brought him back before the Duke. He found him guilty he was led by a large following to the gallows. He asked the Duke for one request before he died. The Duke said he would grant anything but his life. I do not ask my life said the countryman(continues on next page)
